About Transport Notes

This blog focuses on how intra-city and intra-regional transportation systems are built, planned, and used around Chicago.  Efficient transport will take you or your goods where you want to go when you want to go at minimal total cost[1]Total cost means fully externalized costs including: capital and operating costs, land use, travel time, environmental costs, health costs, and others..  Efficient transport is fundamentally important to our economic and social well being.

In many ways transportation infrastructure in Chicago is fragmented with opposing government, public, and private interests maintaining much of the status quo.   Despite these political obstacles, vast progress has been made by dedicated transportation planners to improve the ways we move.  Stories in this blog include analyses of reports and of open data, and studies of existing conditions.
